Hadrian's Wall By Numbers

84 Miles, 4 Days, 37 hours 1600m acsent, 210,040 Steps, 11 Walkers, £1474.88 Raised

In August 2019, 11 members from Toukon Martial Arts took on the challenge of walking 84 miles along Hadrian’s Wall in 4 days, in aid to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the Team Toukon fund.

It begins...

The team set off on the sunny morning of August 2nd at 8:30am from Segedunum Wallsend, walking west along the Hadrian's wall path. After 4 hours the team stopped at Riverside Park for a spot of lunch before continuing on their journey. The team arrived at the Errington Coffee House at 7pm after walking 25 miles. Andrea was waiting to take everyone to the Bunk Barn for a quick turnaround and the team sat down for a well deserved hot meal at the Red Lion Pub before heading back to the accommodation for a good night sleep.

Then 8 became 11...

The team were ferried back to the previous finish point and day 2s starting point. They climbed 10 miles up to Brocolita Roman Fort which was also the days halfway point. Here they were joined by Helen, Antonia and Sharron who supplied a well needed lunch. The 11 walkers set off for an eventful afternoon of hiking which included Antonia and Sharron falling into a bog within minutes of setting off and the group being delayed by a heard of cows. However, the team were sharp back on track and made it to Burnhead Quarry for 7pm and once again taken back to the bunk barn for the evening. After freshening up the group relaxed in the communal lounge eating pizza and preparing themselves for Sundays 23 mile.

Carlisle here we come...

Day 3 and the team were 2 members down due to injuries, however Antonia and Liam helped support their team mates by joining Andrea and dropping off supplies and snacks for the walkers. The team were dropped off at Burnhead to start the 23 mile walk to Carlisle. 10 miles in and the supporters met the team for lunch, where Kay was forced to temporarily retire due to injuries. The remaining walkers picked up the pace and made it to Carlisle ahead of schedule, meaning everyone got to go to the pub for dinner. Everyone appreciated the relative luxury of the Premier Inn and enjoyed a restful night sleep.

We made it!...

On Monday morning Sharon decided not to join the walkers due to her injured feet.
The remaining 7 walkers set off for the final 16 miles leaving from Carlisle’s Rickerby Park before stopping for refreshments at an Honesty cafe. Kay was determined to finish the challenge and re-joined the team for the final few miles and they all completed the walk arriving at Bowness-on-solway at 3pm
